Garishly bright frocks, oversized fascinators plonked on top of heads and several layers of bad fake tan are the few things that come to mind when I think about Ladies day at Ascot. But this year, there were some really great outfits, with some side stepping from the norm of the satin dress and fascinator combo from Debenhams (yawn). With lovely ladies oozing glamour and sophistication in soft colour palettes, minimalist outfits and allowing the oh so important accessories to do the talking.
The bold and the beautiful came out to play last week for the Cannes film festival 2013. Monochrome and muted toned gowns dominated the red carpet this year with shimmering metallics, feminine silhouettes, exquisite lace and thigh high split skirts. Which one’s your favourite look?
London and Miami based Greek-Cypriot Elena Antoniades has created a unique style of feminine glamour, which she captures in her S/S 2013 womenswear collection.
Elena Antoniades collections ooze glamour and sophistication whilst fusing her cultural background and influences to give a distinctive feminine feel and modern twist to her designs.
The signature of Elena’s designs is the opulent blend of fabrics she uses which include, silk chiffon, satin print fabrics, French lace embellished with thousands of crystals, leather and cashmere, rich embroidered velvets, silk stretch organza and jerseys that drape the body in a flattering way, celebrating the female form.
It’s no wonder so many celebrities such as Mel B, Emma Bunton, Victoria Silvstedt, DUFFY, Alexandra Burke, Tamara Ecclestone, Denise Van Outen, Joan Collins and Tennis star Serena Williams are happy to strut their stuff on the red carpet wearing one of her beautifully crafted designs.
I had the pleasure of styling Elena’s Spring Summer 2013 Look Book, keep reading for behind the scenes shots and my favorite picks from the collection!
Below are my favourite looks for Summer, you can view the whole collection at ElenaAntoniades.com
Thought your average Wayfarers couldn’t get any cooler? Get a lens with a colorful mirrored finish and bring your style bang up to date for summer! From a fun pair on a budget to a summer investment piece, there’s a pair to suit everyone.
Gorgeous sunsets, pool parties, palm trees, and the infamous Ferris wheel are some of the things that come to mind when I think and read about the Coachella Festival.
Each spring, Coachella serves as much more than a music festival. It’s also a real life fashion week for bohemian desert style. This year, the fashionable festival folk didn’t disappoint; from high waisted denim shorts, daring cropped tops to long flowy Woodstock-inspired frocks. We can but dream that the UK weather offers us the chance to don a crop top at this year’s festivals but here’s a glimpse anyway to help inspire you and your outfit!
Coachella festival 2013 kicked off this weekend, welcoming thousands of well-dressed music lovers and celebs from around the world. Set in Indio, California amongst palm trees and desert mountains the only compulsory accessory is a tan. I for one, am truly excited to see what the fashionable folk will be wearing as it’s sure to influence our spring summer wardrobes. Here’s some of last years chicest girls captured in their festival best!
The floral trousers trend has been around for a while now and looks like it’s here to stay. Favoured by celebs such as Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba it’s a sure fire way to get you ready for spring/summer. At first glance they may seem intimidating and risky, but with a bit of courage and the right styling tips this look can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe. You’ll be surprised how many staple pieces floral trousers can be paired with. Rock them with everything from striped tops to neon hued heels!
Choose a blouse that matches one of the colours from the printed trouser to ensure a beautifully blended look
Keep the top half simple and let the print to the talking (also a clever trick if you are top heavy, the eye will be drawn directly to your bottom half)
Opt for a solid coloured tee and blazer for a smart, put together look
I love shoes but Jenna Lyons, J.Crew’s president and executive creative director absolutely LOVES shoes! The style icon claims to own 289 pairs and at J.Crew they call the successful shoes to make the cut and go onto the shop floor as ‘shiny ponies’. In this short video, Lyons talks about the inspiration behind every J.Crew shoe designed in New York and then produced in a small workshop in Italy. The collection combines traffic stopping colour palattes, sweet floral prints and sparkly glitter accents, I already own 2 pairs but have a feeling that this will increase once the new J.Crew store opens on Regent Street this year!
The full skirt is one of spring’s key looks and with its fun, flirty, playful feel it’ll bring out the demure lady in even the most stubborn jeans wearer. The ultra feminine skirt flatters most silhouettes and with plenty of ways to wear this trend there’s sure to be one to suit you and your style. Here are a few of my favourites!
Choose the right length for you: if you are short, avoid full skirts below the knee as it will swamp you. Go cute and short instead. If you are blessed with super model limbs, go full length!
Wear with a belt, it’ll instantly gives you an hourglass figure.
If you are curvy don’t go too full, this will add unnecessary inches to your hips and that’s something us girls definitely don’t want! Try a flare A-line instead.
Full skirts can be worn day AND night! Add some sparkly heels and a clutch for an evening look.
The perfect way to get into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit this year is with some Emerald green style. Emerald was seen all over the catwalks for 2013 so at some point this year you shall be donning it. Thankfully the ‘luck of the Irish’ shade suits almost every skin tone and hair colour, so forget the silly hat this year and indulge in a splash of the jewelled tone with an obligatory pint of Guinness in hand of course!
